Our Story

It all started
with an ad on Craigslist.

One night in March 2015, when I was browsing one of the vintage trailer blogs I love to read, a post with a link to a Craigslist ad caught my eye. The title said "Vintage Trailer Venture" and when I clicked through to the ad I was instantly attracted to these utterly unique vintage trailers. According to the story a high school welding teacher named Roy had designed a mid-century dream trailer in the early 1960s and begun the manufacturing process before he abandoned the project and it went into storage for more than fifty years in a warehouse in Michigan. When the warehouse was sold earlier this year the new owner found everything virtually untouched on the second floor and decided to sell it.

I had never seen anything like it and I knew instantly that this was something very special.

I had to wait until the next morning to make the call and when I talked to him the owner said that he would put me on a list as he had already gotten a lot of interest within the first 12 hours of listing the trailers. I paced for about an hour and decided to call him back and pretty much begged him to sell them to me unseen. He agreed and the rest is history! I flew to Michigan and inventoried the equipment, there was one nearly completed trailer on a frame, two finished shells and all the equipment to make them. Everything was in pristine condition and so we loaded it onto a 45-foot semi and a 20-foot flat bed and had it shipped to its new home in Washington State.

Working with the Best

To honor and continue Roy's amazing legacy we lined up the best in their fields: We found an amazing fiberglass fabricator, North Star Fiberglass, to produce our one of a kind shells under the expert guidance of Jerry Starke. The talented vintage trailer restoration expert Brian Morrow of Brian’s Vintage Trailers does all our interior work and makes sure it's true to the era. Spencer Cochran at SC Autokraft is the best classic car restoration specialist in our area and takes care of our exterior paint and frames.

About Us

Building a Dream.

Hello, my name is Jayne Barocela and I am the owner of Relic Custom Trailers. I grew up in a large Italian-Argentine family and was lucky enough to have spent most summers in Italy where my love for all things old was born. I was fascinated by the history that surrounded me and developed a deep appreciation of the stories and the character that came with the vintage treasures I started collecting. I am a former Federal Aviation Administration contractor and live in the Puget Sound area, with my husband Shawn, a Boeing worker, and our sons Layne and Jack. In our free time we love browsing around old antique shops and visiting weekend vintage travel trailer shows. Living in the Pacific Northwest we take advantage of the beautiful outdoors and go traveling any chance we get. We can't wait to go on an adventure around the country in a Relic Trailer!
